WORKS OF FAITH
This committee plans church-wide fund raising events. This group was founded to help raise money to help with capital costs. They rely on church-wide participation and support to conduct these special events. Committee meeting time and place are announced in advance. Contact is Debbie Carr (753-4606). Fund raising events include:
Every month on the third Saturday, from 7:00 - 10:00, a country breakfast consisting of scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and gravy, biscuits, fruit, and beverages is served in the fellowship hall by rotating teams of helpers. This popular event draws many residents from the community, enabling Fairview to share in Christian fellowship with members and non-members alike.
During the spring the church makes strawberry jam to sell at a Strawberry Jam Festival in May or June. This event features a meal and musical entertainment for the community.
LORD'S ACRE SALE
Back when Fairview was primarily an agricultural community, farmers donated the yield from one acre of their land to the church, thus the name "Lord's Acre". Fairview continues this tradition on the last Saturday of September with a festival featuring produce, crafts, a flea market, games, food, and music. A live auction features wood working, needlework, quilts, paintings, and other crafts from our talented membership. This event, the church's largest annual fundraiser, draws many from the surrounding community. Proceeds currently go towards the building fund. To be involved in this ministry, contact Brenda Hensley (753-2156) or Kristy Robinson (557-1607).
A significant portion of the proceeds from the Lord's Acre Sale comes from the sale of apple butter that the congregation makes during September. Fairview apple butter can be found in the homes of many throughout the Tri-Cities area.
Homecoming Sunday is generally celebrated the first Sunday in August with a service of song, reminiscences of Fairview's 100+ years, and followed by a fellowship meal. Members are encouraged to invite those who have past connections with Fairview to come "home" for this special Sunday.
Baptism is always a very special occasion in the life of Christians. Many new members choose to celebrate their commitment to our church by being baptized at the river at Davy Crockett State Park. A welcome meal is held afterwards on the banks of the river.
Fairview is well known for wanting to celebrate significant events in the life of the church and its members. Birthdays, anniversaries, graduations, and senior recognition have all been marked with special events at Fairview.
